hi, i’m drew

I’m a writer, journalist and documentarian based in Cape Town, South Africa.

I'm fascinated by the ever-shifting relationships between humans and the natural world—and what it means to be both part of nature and its observer.

My work has taken me from the cotton belt of central India to traditional farming homesteads in rural Hawai'i, always with the belief that the best stories emerge through collaboration, not extraction. I create alongside my subjects rather than about them, building equitable narratives where we can learn something about the other's craft.

With over five years in environmental journalism—including an award-winning piece on regenerative coral farming—and experience directing two feature films, I specialize in ethical documentary approaches that honor both story and subject. Currently completing my MA in Media and Communications at the University of Cape Town (and holding a Masters in Global Media from LSE), I'm passionate about authentic storytelling that respects the complexity of human experience.
